Staying at Home Versus Going Out

Keeping in mind the unbelievably rapid advances in gadgets in this era of technology, or the “Age of the Computers” as some like to call it, hundreds of surveys have shown that kids nowadays prefer to stay home and fiddle around with their Xboxes and PS3s rather than going out with their friends for say, a soccer game, or even a normal hangout. The term “couch potato” is becoming increasingly common in the upcoming generation of children. I mean I would probably grab a bag of popcorn and jump on the couch to play Halo 4 rather than go for a night out with friends too. We’ve all become lazy bums who like to stay in and sleep their day off.

Always have Backup

Backup? I didn’t even know what backup meant until a rather tragic mishap betook me. So basically, I was applying to a couple of universities, IVYs all of them, and to no average ones. I had a pretty decent chance of getting in, and I was all cocky and way too over confident. As you probably would’ve guessed, I didn’t get in any of them. I was completely devastated. My life was over. At that point in my life, my mother taught me the lesson of a lifetime when she showed me the acceptance letters from a few average universities she’d applied to on my behalf. So yes, I’d advise you to ALWAYS have backup options.

Chernobyl Disaster

On 26th April 1986, the Chernobyl disaster took the Soviet Union, as well as the rest of the world, by storm. It is, by far, considered the deadliest nuclear power plant accident in history. The battle to avert the catastrophe and contain the contamination involved well above 500,000 workers and cost an estimated 18 billion rubles (the Ukrainian currency at that time). Thirty one deaths are attributed to the accident, among the emergency workers and the reactor staff. Interestingly, four hundred times more radioactive material was released that had been by the fatal bombing of Hiroshima. Following the accident, questions arose about the future of the plant and its eventual fate. All work on the unfinished reactors 5 and 6 was halted three years later.
